February Screening Log

I've been told by a few people that my movie watching totals are crazy, and I guess, yes, for a married man with a full-time job that may be true, but then I see someone like her, and I feel like a novice. C'est la vie.

This month you will notice a new category, Blu-ray, yes, this is the month I made the long awaited leap to the land of 1080p.

As always it's date watched, title, year/director, method of viewing, number of times I've seen the particular film and my letter grade.

Posterized: Woody Allen (60s-80s Edition)

At the age of 14 or 15 I watched Annie Hall for the first time and Woody Allen instantly became, along with Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg and David Lynch, one of the first directors that I became cognizant of, which led to an interest in investigating their back catalogue as a burgeoning cinephile. Now that I've seen his uninspired (and at an hour and fifty minutes way too long for a Woody joint) 2003 effort Anything Else, I have now seen his entire filmography (well, at least the theatrically released films), which I still cannot claim for Hitchcock (a handful of older British films) and Spielberg (The Color Purple and Amistad are my two blind spots). I'm solid with Lynch who admittedly has a much smaller oeuvre than the others.

To celebrate this achievement let's look at the posters for the writer-director (for hire acting jobs not included), starting today with the first two decades and change of his lengthy career, taking us from 1966 through 1989.

I'll follow up soon with posters for his 1990 to present films.

Take the Money and Run (1969)

Bananas (1971)

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* (*but were afraid to ask) (1972)
